Back in the game thanks to pounds and pound of bush beans. Green beans, yellow beans. Pounds every day. Loving them now. Will be making me cringe in a few more weeks when I will be over eating beans. But right now, they are the most delicious thing coming out of the garden and we’ve got plenty to sell.

In preparation for my big return to market on Saturday, I picked beans on Friday in honor of Beth Gatzke — the founder of our local little farmer’s market. What a legacy to leave behind! Beth used my beans in the canned dilly beans she sold at the market. A very popular item. “Your beans are fantastic!” she told me after she’d tried my beans. She seemed surprised. And she was. “They just looked so wimpy. But they were perfect!” She came out to the Eden of Garden once a week to pick up 5 pounds of beans to pickle.  Never could get over how good they were. She was very appreciative.

Before Beth left to move downstate, the hand part of the mitten that is Michigan, she treated all us Farmer’s Marketers to a picnic. Home made pita, hummus, tahini, and the best falafel I’ve ever tasted. The meal was made more delicious by the company with which it was shared.  Beth passed away this winter, but everyone who frequents the market thinks of her often. She wouldn’t believe how popular Garden’s little farmer’s market has become. She brought us all together to share in our local goodness. Thanks Beth!
