I don’t know many people who think things in the World are great right now. In an ugly case of deja vu, we’ve got an election coming up between (the same) two really old men and everyone is all worked up and pissed off. If people aren’t pissed, they are scared and anxious. Too many people are on drugs, and not the fun kind.
You know what puts it all into perspective – dirt. Yeah, I know some people think gardening is boring and time consuming. But it teaches us about choosing our battles. I don’t give a shit who you voted for if you can tell me why my strawberry beds look so sad.

You don’t need to sell everything and drop big bucks renovating a van to escape the trappings of society. All you need is dirt. You gotta work for your food one way or another, may as well cut out the middle man.
Turn that anger into weed pulling. Need some exercise? Turn the compost. Dig a hole. Overwhelmed by inflation – grow your own food. Trust me, start a garden and you’ll be too busy to scroll the comments section. Instead of following virtual rabbit holes, you’ll be busy figuring out how to keep rabbits out of your greens.
Grow flowers if you need to feel joy. Grow lettuce and radishes if you are impatient. Grow zucchini and cucumbers if you need some abundance in your life. Grow carrots if you want to make friends. Need some sweetness in your life? Plant strawberries and raspberries (though I should warn you those take a few years to establish). Digging and tilling are great ways to work out anger. Want to fight? Wage war on the bugs who are munching your seedlings. Can’t figure out what to make for dinner? Eat what is coming out of the ground. Want to really stick it to the man? Grow your own food and if you can’t grow your own food, support your local farmer. The revolution starts at ground level.
