Gardening can seem like a lot of trouble and turmoil (hence, all the Boss’ war references), especially when everything is small and getting started. So vulnerable.

Us gardeners can take is personally and “some of us” really let it get us down. Sometimes we get too fixated on where things are going wrong and it takes a Boss to remind us to focus on where things are kicking butt.

We need to recognize and celebrate where things are growing well. If we only focus on what is going wrong, we’ll feel like it’s not worth trying. It’s always worth it to grow your own food. And let me tell you, when the food starts rolling in, I all but forget about a few insignificant bugs nibbling on a few seedings. It’s all a matter of perspective, right?

Perspective can change everything — well, that and a whole lot of warm weather. Mother nature’s been working in our favor. The magic combination of steady rain and heat have kicked the garden into grow mode. It’s getting really green out there. Recovery is underway.

The brassicas we fretted over just a few weeks ago are robust and looking so big and beautiful I’m a little intimidated by the amount of broccoli and cabbage coming on. The corn is as high as an elephants eye and starting to tassel. The beans are running over the peppers. Early girl tomatoes are piling up on the counter. I’ve got a gallon of peas to shuck. And the raspberries are more than making up for the lack of strawberries, like, waaaaaay more.

Instead of focusing on the struggle, we need to focus on the successes. That’s what keeps us going. So it goes in the garden, it also goes in life.

It’s all good now. We’ve recovered from our buggy start. No worries, no looking back. Optimism instead of pessimism, abundance over scarcity. We’re looking forward to a season of abundance and a shit ton of broccoli (and peas and berries and beans) that need to be put up.
